The first annual Turkey Trot was a huge success, and the organizers would like to thank everyone who participated, volunteered or sponsored a team or the event
At a routine Drs. visit on Aug. 29th, 2001 (at 35 weeks) we found out that our baby was struggling and might not survive. After an immediate c/section we found out Kelly had fetal hydrops and probably would not live. Even though they told us that I didn't believe it...she was 5 1/2 lbs, much bigger then the other's in the NICU. Regardless, after 2 days, her health plummeted and she passed away. I've never felt so alone after that. I didn't know anyone else that had lost a baby and knew that the best thing for us would be to talk with others that had similar stories. After a few weeks, we went to our first IRIS support group meeting. It was extremely difficult but so, so helpful to tell our story and hear other's stories as well. We continued attending IRIS events and meetings as much as we could.
Then, on April 6th, 2005 we found ourselves needing support again from IRIS after we lost our 3 1/2 month old daughter, Erica, to SIDS. We never ever thought that we'd again be going through these same dark days. Though, this time I knew we weren't alone and had our IRIS friends there to talk to.
Though Jay and I won't be able to be there (physically) due to being in Illinois, please consider walking/running/supporting the IRIS Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning by joing Team Kelly and Erica.
