The first annual Turkey Trot was a huge success, and the organizers would like to thank everyone who participated, volunteered or sponsored a team or the event
One Sunday afternoon my water broke. While this is usually a joyous time for many new mothers, this was cause for great shock and alarm as I had just started my 17th week of pregnancy. Two days later on March 17, 1998 my daughter, Sara, was born. She was so tiny, but she was beautiful and perfect.
After Sara was born, Diana, the founder of IRIS, came to the hospital and helped me and my family, create lasting memories of Sara that we will always treasure. To this day, I am amazed every time one of my family members or friends mentions Sara after all these years. It just goes to show that the work that Diana and IRIS does is so enduring and very important.
I keep reading that so many of the other mothers that IRIS has helped never thought anything could go wrong. But unfortunately things do go wrong and more mothers like us will need the help of IRIS, so that is why I have chosen to run on Thanksgiving morning.
Also running for Team Sara is my friend and trainer, Jenny. She has been giving up lots of mornings to run outside with me, and helping me get prepared to run in the 1st annual Turkey Trot. Thanks much Jenny!
