2012 IRIS Advocate Training Conference

Infants Remembered in Silence, Inc. (IRIS) is excited to announce its 2012 IRIS Advocate Training! IRIS is honored to present a comprehensive, national training, geared towards bereaved parents and professionals who wish to assist newly bereaved parents and staff in a unique "Hands On" environment.

This IRIS Advocate Training Conference is the premier training event of the year. The Conference provides a rich learning environment for both professionals and those who have experienced this great loss themselves and now wish to make the healing journey better for those who currently grieve the death of a child. The training offers current and cutting-edge practices and techniques to give optimal care for the child and grieving parent(s) while allowing them to make the decisions that best fit their unique needs and beliefs regarding their precious child. IRIS Advocate training is a "hands on" training that focuses on working directly with the child that has died. The techniques you learn can be used in a hospital and/or funeral home setting. You will learn to work directly with children that have died during early pregnancy, before birth, at birth, and through early childhood, from all causes. You will learn how to assist the parents in creating keepsakes, how to answer their difficult questions, and offer support for years to come.

Our blueprint for success is simple

Small class sizes, one-on-one attention, instructors with "Real-World" experiences in the field with a hands-on approach to learning.

Workshop Details

It's against the laws of nature for a child to die before their parents. In the past it was considered taboo to see, hold, touch, or talk about your child that had died. Today we know that seeing, holding, touching, and talking about the child is the beginning of healing, the beginning of moving forward, the beginning of lovingly remembering this precious child. IRIS Advocates work directly with parents, granting them permission to cry, to grieve, to ask questions, and assist them in creating memories that will last a lifetime. As an IRIS Advocate Trainee, you will be attending training workshops on:

  • Parents & Grandparents Point of View: what’s requested and needed, Q & A
  • Doula services for grieving parents
  • Preservation of the child's body
  • Autopsies
  • Keepsakes
  • Dealing with Families: immediate and extended
  • Support Groups – Listening with your heart
  • Self Care for Advocate
  • Legal Requirements and documentation
  • Reality, where do we go from here?
  • Getting advocate services into Hospitals/Funeral home
