Tears for Michael

In memory of Michael James Odenthal, December 25, 2002
We cried when we learned that a baby would be,
That God had quickened a new life in me.

We cried with others as they shared our joy
And thought of names for our new girl or boy.

I cried as I thought of each inch you had grown
And looked to the day that you’d
make yourself known.

But something’s gone wrong,
Once again there are tears.
Gone is the change of your love through the years.

Now your sweet little fingers
are held tight in God’s palm,
where he holds you gently, and he keeps you calm.

We know you’re with Him
And we’ll see you someday,
but ‘till then, sweet little Michael,
our tears won’t go away.
